A wonderfully timeworn 18th-century Italian farmhouse table featuring a distinctive geometric inlaid top and centuries of character.
The substantial rectangular plank top is decorated with contrasting wood inlay forming an intricate arrangement of intersecting diamonds, triangles, and borders. Its richly aged surface reveals deep scratches, worn edges, old repairs, and a beautifully varied patina developed through generations of use.
The straightforward construction features a single drawer with two turned wooden pulls, a simple apron, and four sturdy, slightly tapered legs. The juxtaposition of decorative geometric detailing and rustic utilitarian craftsmanship gives this piece an especially compelling presence.
Dating to the 1700s, this table embodies the understated elegance of Italian provincial furniture. Equally suited as a dining table, library table, or substantial center table, it offers an appealing combination of history, functionality, and sculptural character.
Condition: Significant age-appropriate wear throughout, including surface losses, scratches, irregularities, and evidence of historic use, all contributing to its distinctive character.
