The Thessalus was a 1782-ton iron-hulled, three-masted sailing ship and wool clipper built in 1874. Dinsdale has rendered this clipper ship in extraordinary detail, sailing through choppy waters and a windy sky. Every line and minute detail of the ship is visible, down to the rust on the hull and sun streaming through the sails. A truly masterful painting in every way.

Disdale was a founding member of the British Sea Painters Group in 1970, going on to exhibit solo four years later in 1974.

Record auction price realized for his work is about $21,000.
