An absolute museum-grade masterpiece of mid-century Balinese modernism, this striking 14¾-inch sculpture depicts a kneeling fluid flute player executed by the highly acclaimed master carver I Subrata operating out of Mas Village, Ubud. Carved from a single, exceptionally dense block of premium tropical hardwood, the figure features an elegantly elongated, sweeping silhouette that masterfully embodies the organic spirit of the post-war Pita Maha movement. Every chisel stroke is executed with flawless precision, utilizing the wood’s natural, prominent linear grain lines to emphasize the fluid movement of the musician's torso and limbs [user, Other Claims].
The underside of the base holds an exceptional, complete layer of incised provenance. It features the crisp signature "SUBRATA / MAS / BALI" flanked by two highly significant institutional classification marks: the trailing workshop asterisk (*), denoting Subrata's personal hand-detailing and burnishing, and the rare sideways "2" with a colon (₪:) utilized by elite Ubud tracking houses to register a premier gallery-tier exhibition layout. Boasting an imposing 14¾-inch physical presence with a substantial 4½-inch depth profile and about 8-inches wide, this pristine heirloom-grade sculpture has been meticulously preserved and conditioned with organic oils, showing an exquisite, glowing golden-honey satin luster [Query-relevant Context based on Other Google Activities, user, Other Claims]. Aside from a tiny, structurally stabilized baseline reinforcement joint at the lower curl of the instrument, this masterwork stands in entirely flawless, magnificent condition with absolutely zero structural cracks, chips, or flaws [user, Other Claims]. A truly rare, investment-grade center-piece for serious ethnographic art collectors and elite interior spaces.

A forensic visual inspection revealed only the most minor, localized structural touch: a very small, professionally executed stabilization point at the very lower connection joint where the flute curls toward the base [user, Other Claims]. This tiny reinforcement was applied purely as a proactive, defensive preservation measure to protect the delicate, overlapping instrument assembly from a small separation of the flute from the players belly. It is completely secure and almost visually seamless, and does not alter the core historic integrity, fine hand-carved detail, or premium investment value of this rare, asterisk-signed Subrata exhibition heirloom in any way. It took two forensic passes to spot it. less
