Mercerized cotton has a smooth, slightly shiny surface and a very pleasant touch, which makes it resemble silk in appearance. The composition is dominated by a stylized Tree of Life growing from a richly decorated container. The entire surface is filled with a multitude of flowers, palmettes and plant ornaments. The delicate color scheme combines powder pink, cream, beige, light blue, turquoise, green and darker contrasting tones. A wide floral border creates a distinctive frame around the central motif. The rug has a relatively fine hand-knotting with a density of approximately 250,000 knots per m². The back side clearly shows the manual processing method and the fineness of the drawing. The condition corresponds to use. In some places, there is noticeable loss of pile and partial wear. However, the weave remains stable and the rug is still suitable for everyday use. The fringes are preserved with minor signs of wear. On the back there is an older trade label “Tapis d’Orient – entièrement noué à la main”, i.e. oriental rug completely hand-knotted. Kashmir, second half of the 20th century. Dimensions: total length 203 cm, length without fringes 190 cm, width 119 cm, height approximately 0.6 cm See less
