The intimate scene shows the historic buildings of the town, dominated by the distinctive brick silhouette of the church rising above the surrounding landscape. In the foreground, the artist depicted a horse-drawn carriage with figures, while small houses, a road and surrounding greenery extend into the distance. The painting has both a landscape and topographical character, documenting the appearance of Lyngby, near Copenhagen, during the 19th century.

An old handwritten label has been preserved on the reverse, providing information about the subject, the artist and the history of the painting. The work was also clearly catalogued as a painting by Rasmus Holm by the auction house from which it originates.

The painting is preserved in condition consistent with its age. An extensive natural network of craquelure is visible across the painted surface, particularly noticeable under side lighting. The canvas retains its old stretcher. The work is presented in a broad decorative gilt frame with ornamental corner details and a profiled inner moulding. The frame shows natural signs of age and use.
