Jean Jaffeux was born in 1931 in Riom (Puy-de-Dôme, Auvergne). The son and grandson of painters, he followed the family tradition. He began his career in advertising and illustration. He became interested in the technique of enameling on volcanic stone (which is abundant in the region) and opened his own workshop in Riom. For 50 years, he worked as a decorative painter, creating tables and other items from glazed lava stone. He also received commissions to decorate public buildings, such as the lobby of the Clermont-Ferrand train station. His signature style is a blend of graphic and abstract forms. In his later years, he devoted himself exclusively to painting on canvas. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
official proof of authenticity,
