This French oil and vinegar set is made of Gien ceramic and glass. It features a floral decoration covering the entire ceramic surface, hand-painted in an antique rose tone on a cream background.
The set is completed with a central, turned, ebonized wooden stem in a baluster shape with a multi-lobed design, topped with a spherical knob for better grip and carrying. The entire set rests on four small wooden legs.
The glass vessels feature transverse gadroons in an amphora-like profile, culminating in a curled neck with a cylindrical stopper. A delightful and charming piece to complete and enrich any table setting, both useful for serving and as a collectible antique.
Gien ceramics (officially known as Faïencerie de Gien) is one of the most prestigious fine earthenware brands in France and throughout Europe. Founded in 1821 by the Englishman Thomas Hall in the Loire Valley, it is particularly renowned for its handcrafted pieces that combine tradition, luxury, and the unmistakable French country style. Technically, the material is earthenware, characterized by its off-white base, opacity, and a warmer, denser paste. This allows its rich pigments and hand-painted motifs to shine with exceptional vibrancy.
