Italian designer Gabriella Crespi was born in 1922 and continued producing furniture in her Milan studio until her death in 2017.
Gabriella Crespi studied architecture at the Polytechnic University of Milan. Since the 1950s, she dedicated herself to creating and internationally promoting furniture and other decorative objects recognized for their originality, as well as the high level of technical skill in their production, resulting in outstanding decorative pieces.
Part of her creative activity during the 1970s was dedicated to the production of sculptures in gilded bronze and Murano glass featuring stylized animals that make up the "Gabriella Crespi Bestiary." She used the lost-wax casting technique, which allows her to incorporate a hand-blown glass egg or a genuine ostrich egg, set into the bronze body as if it were a precious stone. The hand-blown Murano glass eggs are made by Barovier & Toso.
The piece features a handwritten signature on the base and also includes a metal identification plaque at the bottom.
