The upright rises … Read more An articulated industrial lamp by dugdills, built from tubular steel and mounted on a wooden block base. The upright rises from a cast flange and carries a single long arm with friction joints at both ends. Each joint is a simple bolt, nut and wide washer that you tighten by hand, so you can set the arm's height and reach and then angle the shade exactly where you want the light. The flex runs outside the frame and loops over each joint, which is part of the lamp's honest, workmanlike look.

the shade is a deep dome with a white enamel interior that throws the light down. It hangs from a slotted u-shaped bracket that lets you change the shade's angle and position. The lamp has been rewired with black flex and a new switched bayonet lampholder in an antique brass finish, and it has a uk three-pin plug. The original cast flange is screwed to a wooden base, so the lamp works freestanding on a desk, bench or sideboard. It can also be removed from the mount and secured to a wall.
