It's a good fit for a bedroom or alcove where a wide chest won't go, and the top is a handy spot for a lamp or mirror. The top drawer is shallower than the five below. That's useful for socks, jewellery and other small things.

The handles are the main feature. Each one is a solid lip running the full width along the top edge of the drawer front, with a scooped central section carved out for your fingers. Stacked up, they give the front a strong horizontal rhythm. The drawer fronts have rebated corners, and the top overhangs the case slightly. The chest stands on four round, tapered legs that flare out where they meet the base, which lifts it clear of the floor and keeps it from looking heavy. The drawer boxes are pale timber with veneered bases, and they run smoothly inside the case.

There's a gold printed "Austinsuite" stamp on the base of the top drawer. This piece has an attribution mark,
