Perennial still life , signed 19.09.2026
in this still life, things no longer seem willing to remain where memory has placed them. A flower opens where a body might exist, a fruit begins to resemble a landscape, and a trace of light acquires, for a moment, the substance of something alive. Nothing is stable enough to be called final.
i am interested in that brief moment of uncertainty when the eye recognises something and then almost immediately loses it. The still life becomes a territory of transformation — a space where forms are not simply represented, but caught in the process of becoming something else.
this is where my idea of the aesthetics of improbable configurations enters the painting: not as an attempt to create something impossible, but to allow forms that could never naturally coexist to meet and become strangely convincing. A petal may continue into a shadow, the shadow into a gesture, the gesture into a fragment of vegetation. For a moment, they become part of the same organism.
perhaps metaphysics begins precisely here — not in explaining what lies beyond reality, but in accepting that reality itself is far less stable than we usually imagine.
the forms in this painting exist in a provisional balance. What appears to be a flower may be the beginning of a memory. What resembles a fruit may become an interior architecture. What seems to be merely colour may conceal the trace of a form that has not yet been born.
this is why perennial does not mean eternal in the conventional sense. It means always becoming.
the still life is not a place where time has stopped, but a place where time becomes visible. Each layer carries something of what has been while preparing the emergence of something that does not yet exist.
i see this painting as a small world suspended between two breaths — familiar enough to be recognised, yet improbable enough to resist being completely explained.
perhaps this is its true still life: not life brought to a halt, but life caught in the instant when it changes its form.
