The top flap folds down on brass hinges and is held level by two metal rod stays, giving a full-width writing surface. Inside there's a half-width shelf, a central pigeonhole unit with two small shelves for letters and stationery, and an open compartment on the right. Close the flap and a double ball catch holds it shut, so the front reads as one clean panel.

Below are three full-width drawers. Every pull on the front is a notch cut into the edge of the panel: two along the top edge of the flap and two along the bottom edge of each drawer. There's no handle anywhere, which keeps the front completely flat. The cabinet sits on round tapered beech legs fixed to square mounting blocks underneath, with black domed glides.
