A reclining nude female figure with one arm raised to cover or frame her head, rendered in warm, earthy tones. The body's flesh is modeled with shades of ochre, brown, and touches of light green, against a background of neutral, yellowish tones. The brushstrokes are full-bodied and structured, typical of academic and figure studies of the first half of the 20th century: the application of color is very free, almost Expressionist, evident in the touches of green and ochre visible on the body and background. The painter certainly drew on the lessons of the Expressionists, bringing them into the second half of the 20th century. The pose and construction of the volumes strongly recall the great tradition of the masters of the reclining nude of the 20th century, but filtered through a more intimate and less monumental sensibility than in the past. This painting expresses a strong material component and warm tones ranging from ochre to burnt earth, with small contrasting touches.
