This architecturally clean and visually captivating sofa in the spirit of Bauhaus functionalism dates from the 1930s in Czechoslovakia and was manufactured by the prominent maker Robert Slezák. The primary artistic concept of this solitary piece of furniture stems from modernist principles of utility, ergonomics, and the uncompromising use of modern industrial materials in interior architecture. The architectural design of the entire structure is built upon glossy bent tubes of chromed steel, which form a solid yet visually lightened frame complemented by high-quality and comfortable upholstery in a rich red shade. Harmonious proportions, clean lines, and an additional side cushion give the sofa a dynamic expression, maximum comfort, and an unmistakable interwar charm.
The item has undergone a complete, highly professional, and sensitive restoration combined with thorough professional cleaning of the metal parts and the application of new professional upholstery. Experienced restorers have thus successfully restored one hundred percent functionality and maximum aesthetic appeal while preserving absolute historical authenticity, subtle patina, and the high collector's value of this unique piece.
Thanks to its renowned modernist origin, top-tier craftsmanship by Robert Slezák, and timeless design, this sofa serves as a highly prestigious and fully functional element in a modern interior. It stands out perfectly in a representative living room, a luxury study, a salon, or as a breathtaking design solitaire in a space emphasizing top-tier Czechoslovak functionalism. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
