The upper cabinet is centered by a large, deeply carved relief panel depicting a lively procession of classical figures and putti, framed by molded woodwork and flanked by full-length carved female caryatid figures. An intricately carved frieze of repeating floral rosettes and dentil molding extends across the cornice, creating a richly architectural profile.
The upper cabinet rests above an open lower section supported by extraordinary carved figural legs incorporating lion heads, scrolling forms and substantial paw feet. Additional carved decoration continues along the sides, giving the cabinet a sculptural presence from multiple viewing angles.
The dark wood finish and naturally developed patina emphasize the depth of the carving and the considerable age and character of the piece.
