The gilding wear is honest age and we have left it alone. The downcast gaze and faint half smile are well carved, and on its black plinth it stands 37 cm tall.

Carved wood Buddha head with red lacquer ground and gold leaf gilding. Jewelled diadem inlaid with coloured glass; tightly curled ushnisha (topknot). Collector's piece, Thailand / Japan, early 20th century. Mounted on a black wooden display base. Approx. dimensions: height 37 cm, width 23 cm, depth 23 cm; base 23 x 23 cm, base height 4 cm. Weight approx. 4 kg (packed up to 10 kg). Honest age-related wear to the gilding revealing the red lacquer beneath, consistent with age and devotional use. See less
