Description
An authentic, late 19th-century Middle Eastern Ottoman hand-hammered tinned copper lidded serving dish, known traditionally as a "Sahan." Weighing an impressive 6 lbs 11.7 oz, this heavy-gauge historic vessel showcases exceptional regional coppersmith craftsmanship.

The prominent domed lid features a beautifully hand-etched laurel wreath framing a clear Arabic owner's inscription reading "صاحبه صالح" ("Its Owner is Salih"). Positioned directly beneath the script is the hand-engraved Islamic Hijri date "١٣٠٩" (1309 AH), which translates precisely to 1891–1892 AD in the Western calendar. The lid is crowned with a heavy cast-brass finial, structurally secured on the interior by its original, primitive square-forged iron nut. The underside of the heavy base platter displays early hand-scratched inventory/estate markings reading "h: 181".
