An iconic vintage DAR molded fiberglass armchair designed by Charles and Ray Eames and manufactured by Herman Miller in Zeeland, Michigan, circa 1950s. The chair features a one-piece molded fiberglass shell in its original Parchment color, which has developed a warm golden-yellow appearance with age. The visible fiberglass strands give the shell the distinctive texture and depth associated with early Eames production.
The DAR designation identifies the chair’s configuration: Dining-height, Armchair, Rod base. Its organically curved shell rests on a black-oxide steel-wire base commonly known as the Eiffel base because of its intersecting architectural framework. The combination of a sculptural fiberglass seat and lightweight metal base is a defining example of postwar American Mid-Century Modern design.
Suitable for use as a dining chair, desk chair, accent chair, or collectible design piece.
