Acquired at auction in Paris, this dramatic antique silver ring features a broad, rosette-shaped cluster of individually bezel-set colored stones. A cushion-shaped blue center stone is surrounded by smaller pink and deep-red stones, with larger, darker stones forming an outer circle in shades of green, blue, violet, and brown.
The layered construction gives the ring its distinctive sculptural character. Each stone occupies an individual cup-shaped setting, or collet, with the metal rim worked around its particular outline. Variations in shape, height, and bezel contours create a richly textured face. Approximately three collets retain portions only of the stone.
Two sculpted lion heads accent the shoulders, connecting the plain silver band to curved, branching supports that cradle the raised cluster. Metal arms turn inward around the perimeter between the outer settings. A thin, scalloped metal backing follows the outline of the face, with crossing supports visible underneath.
The generous scale, lion motifs, and aged silver surface give the ring a regal, medieval-inspired presence.
