A beautifully thrown vintage stoneware bowl with a substantial rounded rim, high ring foot, and pronounced horizontal throwing lines that give the form both weight and rhythm.
The glaze moves through earthy brown, russet, ochre, and muted olive tones, with particularly attractive variation around the rim and interior. The robust form, restrained decoration, and emphasis on material and hand-thrown construction reflect the Japanese Mingei tradition and the ceramic vocabulary associated with Mashiko pottery and the wider Hamada/Leach school.
The bowl is unmarked, and no specific maker attribution is being made. Its proportions and construction, however, suggest the work of an accomplished studio potter rather than commercial production.
A strong sculptural object on its own, while remaining entirely functional as a bowl.
