The ovoid vessel is centered by a prominent crowned heraldic cartouche incorporating a winged figure above a wheel, flanked by sculptural grotesque or mascaron-style handles. Additional molded ornament surrounds the lower body, while the rolled rim and beautifully weathered surface give the piece the character of an established European garden object.

Constructed of unglazed terracotta, the vessel appears to have been formed and finished by hand with separately molded decorative elements. Interior forming lines are visible.

Dimensions:
18” H
15” W handle to handle
8.6” opening diameter

Condition:
Good vintage condition with authentic outdoor weathering, mineral deposits, discoloration, surface wear and abrasions. There is a small chip to one sculptural mascaron handle and a larger chip/loss at the lower base/foot. Additional minor edge wear and small losses are present throughout. No major structural break is apparent. Please review photographs closely, as the condition and patina are part of the piece’s character.

A wonderful statement piece for a garden, conservatory, entry, sunroom or layered European-inspired interior. See less
