Historical Provenance & Design Significance:
Produced during the golden age of American cast iron toy manufacturing in Connecticut, this "Roof Bank" exemplifies late 19th-century Victorian architectural miniature work. Drawing inspiration from Gothic Revival and Romanesque domestic architecture, American foundry workers captured structural dignity in a functional domestic object designed to teach thrift during the late Industrial Revolution.
Curator’s Note:
A striking piece of late 19th-century American sculptural ironware. Featuring a dramatic Gothic facade, textured shingle roof, and rich original gold paint against dark oxidized iron, this architectural still bank brings sculptural history and warm metallic tone to a bookcase, mantle, or desk setup.
