origin: sweden / europe (ikea)
style: scandinavian design, industrial aesthetic, and space age
circa: 1980s-1990s
movement: scandinavian functionalism, post-space age object design
material: lacquered metal (sheet steel), porcelain base

this vintage ikea wall light features a strikingly graphic tubular silhouette: an open half-cylinder extended by a triangular base that serves as a wall mount. The deep, glossy electric blue lacquer gives the piece a sculptural presence reminiscent of the formal explorations of 1980s scandinavian design, somewhere between an industrial object and a decorative accessory.

the interior of the shaft conceals the original socket, connected to a sheathed cable and its original connector. The clean, unadorned form perfectly illustrates the functionalist approach so characteristic of scandinavian lighting from this period: an object designed for ease of use as much as for its luminous effect, here intended to project light upwards or downwards depending on its orientation.

originally conceived as an accent wall light for contemporary interiors, this wall sconce now finds its place in a hallway, bedroom, living room, or office space with an industrial, scandinavian, or retro-futuristic feel. Its bold color makes it equally suitable as a discreet accent piece or a striking chromatic highlight in a more neutral interior.

this object will appeal to lovers of scandinavian design, collectors of vintage lighting, enthusiasts of space age and industrial aesthetics, as well as decorators and interior designers seeking a lighting fixture with a strong graphic character.

condition: good overall vintage condition. The blue lacquer has a beautiful shine with a few minor, age-related signs of wear. The original wiring is present but not connected to a plug (bare wires terminated with a connector/terminal block): a professional inspection and rewiring are recommended before use.
