The large “Semi” ceiling lamp, designed in 1968 by Danish architects Claus Bonderup and Torsten Thorup for Fog & Mørup.
Considered one of the most recognizable designs in Scandinavian lighting from the second half of the 20th century, the Semi is characterized by its elegant, flared silhouette, formed from an extremely refined geometry that results in a fluid profile with a strong sculptural presence.
This particular model, 70 cm in diameter, features an attractive gold finish on metal. Its reflective surface accentuates the curves of the shade and adds warmth to the overall design, while its wide lower opening provides direct and generous illumination.
The design originated during Bonderup and Thorup's studies at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, winning first prize in a competition before being incorporated into Fog & Mørup's production. Over time, the Semi became one of the firm's most successful and recognizable models.
Its combination of geometric purity, technical simplicity, and formal expressiveness perfectly represents the evolution of Scandinavian modernism toward the more experimental language of the late 1960s and 1970s.
It is in very good overall condition, with slight signs of use and patina consistent with its age. It has been rewired and is in working order.
