They have custom-cut brass fittings, new wiring and fabric-wrapped cords, and they are set up for use in the United States. Plugs for any other country can be fitted at no charge. Each is shown with a new cream pleated silk shade, and the listed height includes the shade.

The flared beaker, or trumpet, shape has a long ancestry. It descends from the Chinese gu vase, which Dutch Delft potters adopted in the seventeenth century and displayed on mantelpieces in garnitures, flanking covered jars. Belgian factories inherited both the form and its painted vocabulary and kept them in production for generations. This pair belongs to Boch's postwar output.

The palette sets these lamps apart. Instead of the expected blue and white, the decoration is laid out in vertical panels of deep blue over a brick-red terracotta ground. The panels are painted with stylized blossoms, scrolling foliage and water in soft yellow and sage green. Diamond and zigzag borders ring the rim and the foot. The scheme looks back to Chinese and Japanese porcelain, filtered first through Dutch and then through Belgian hands. The decoration is consistent across the pair. The word "Handworked," in English on each base, shows that they were made for export.
