produced in italy by the manufacturer flos, this lamp retains its original pink “création cocoon” stamp on the bottom rim of the shade. In the 1940s, the work of the famous american designer george nelson inspired artur eisenkeil, a small manufacturer from merano to create the first prototypes of cocoon lampshades using a technique that originated from the united states where it had been invented for war purposes. Eisenkeil, along with dino gavina, the castiglioni brothers, ignazio gardella created flos in 1959.

the cocoon technique uses a fine synthetic resin sprayed over a lightweight metal frame, creating overlapping silk-like fibres reminiscent of a natural cocoon. The resulting membrane is lightweight and translucent, appearing almost cloud-like when switched off and revealing its intricate fibrous structure when illuminated. The aged ivory white membrane produces a beautifully warm, diffused light and is an unmissable presence in a room. Comes with a white ceiling fixture.
