The frame is characterized by an incredibly intricate and fluid silhouette. It rises into an elaborate, openwork asymmetric crest adorned with a sculpted cherub face flanked by deeply carved scrolling acanthus leaves, architectural rocaille elements, and floral flourishes. The undulating borders continue down to stylized shell carvings and raised corner feet, which frame the central mirror glass perfectly.
The structural frame is carved from wood with a detailed gesso overlay layer, finished in a gorgeous gold leaf that displays a rich, time-softened antique patina with minor, honest areas of wear exposing the historic gesso beneath. The back features its authentic 19th-century plancher (protective solid wood backing panel) and a secure metal hanging ring at the crest.
Boasting elegant movement and artisanal depth, this exquisite mirror serves as a classic focal point above an entry console table, mantelpiece, or dressing vanity. See less
