This striking antique glass sculpture depicts a roaring mythical guardian beast, traditionally known as a "Hou" or celestial lion. The figure stands in an alert posture with its head raised and mouth open, featuring a spiked crest along its spine and a curled, stylized tail. The body is heavily textured with a weathered, verdigris-like encrustation, giving it the appearance of an excavated bronze. However, the translucent, amber-yellow glass is visible at the legs, face, and underside, revealing its true material. This piece possesses a unique, weathered character that makes it a captivating decorative object or addition to a collection of antique glass and Asian artifacts.
