Standing approximately 24 inches tall, this sculptural lamp was conceived as a piece of functional art, combining found and fabricated industrial materials into an exceptionally distinctive lighting design.

The slender architectural body is constructed primarily from copper pipe and fittings, accented with brass plumbing hardware and contrasting porcelain components. A bright red wheel-handle spigot and blue lever valve provide unexpected pops of color and reinforce the lamp’s industrial character. The porcelain element incorporated near the base adds another layer of texture and reflects the artist’s creative reuse of utilitarian materials.

The hand-fabricated sheet-metal shade is an artwork in itself. Its silvery surface has been individually worked with an intricate abstract pattern of sweeping incised lines and numerous small pierced or punched details. Small metal loops visibly join and finish the shade along its edges, intentionally revealing elements of the fabrication process. The metallic interior beautifully reflects the light when illuminated.

The juxtaposition of copper, brass, porcelain and silvery metal gives the piece a wonderful sculptural quality. Despite its industrial materials, the lamp has an elegant, almost whimsical silhouette that works particularly well against clean contemporary interiors.

This is not a production-made industrial-style lamp, but an individually created artist piece. It sits at the intersection of contemporary lighting design, found-object sculpture and American industrial assemblage art.
