A matched pair of 20th-century Cusco School devotional paintings, oil on canvas glued to board, in gilt gold frames. Both are original hand-painted works in the Escuela Cusqueña tradition: gold brocade patterning, flattened space, ornamental dress, and the small birds and flowers typical of Andean colonial religious painting.
The Madonna and Child shows the Virgin crowned, in a deep blue mantle worked with gold floral brocade over a red dress, supporting the Christ Child. The Child’s hands are joined; small angels flank the figures. Gold halos, an openwork crown, and dense brocade carry the surface. Offered in the spirit of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, the composition follows the crowned colonial Madonna type rather than the fixed Byzantine icon.

The companion is Archangel Barachiel, angel of blessings. He stands full length in a red and gold brocaded tunic with lace cuffs, multicolored wings spread, a floral crown, and a long staff. Roses and small birds occupy the lower field. Crimson, blue, and gold sit against a warm ground.
Each frame measures 17.5 inches high by 13.75 inches wide by 0.75 inches deep. The paintings are 20th century; the frames are gilt gold.


Condition: Both paintings are in good condition with minor imperfections on both works a few indents consistent with age, such as light scuffing or surface wear, which do not detract from their overall impact. The gilt gold framing complements the reverent tone of the works and enhances their decorative appeal.
