The Hotel quickly gained popularity with celebrities, politicians, and socialites. Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, a frequent hotel guest, once said the Ritz "was like paradise." Other famous guests have included Winston Churchill, Charlie Chaplin, Queen Elizabeth II, and more.

The Rivoli Bar occupies a storied place within The Ritz. The original bar was eventually replaced by shops in 1972, before The Rivoli Bar was reinstated in 2001 after an absence of approximately two decades. Celebrated British interior designer Tessa Kennedy created its new interior, drawing upon the glamour of the late 1920s and Art Deco period. Polished camphor wood, onyx and Lalique glass helped create the intimate, jewel-box setting; Kennedy subsequently received House & Garden Designer of the Year recognition for her work on the bar.
