This is a charming vintage gemstone sculpture, crafted in the form of a grape bonsai tree. The piece is attributed to the use of serpentine jade, a material prized for its translucent, pale green tones and natural veining. The sculpture features a central, upright slab of carved serpentine stone representing the main trunk, flanked by smaller vertical stone slabs. Draped across these structures are twining, dark wire branches wrapped in thread, adorned with numerous carved stone grapes in deep plum and pale green hues. The composition is completed by intricately carved serpentine leaves, each with etched vein details, and delicate thread tendrils. The entire sculpture rests on a natural, organic-shaped wooden base with a live edge, providing a rustic contrast to the refined stone elements. A highly decorative and tactile piece, ideal for a scholar's desk or collector's cabinet.
