This is a charming vintage lidded teacup and saucer set, known as a gaiwan, attributed to the "export creation" period of the mid-to-late 20th century. Unlike traditional metal-bodied cloisonné, this piece features a white glazed porcelain body decorated with enamel and fine gilt wirework on the exterior. The design features a vibrant, hand-painted motif of pink cherry blossoms and red buds on brown branches with green leaves, alongside a red and brown butterfly. The same floral motif continues onto the matching saucer and the lid. The interior of the cup, the underside of the lid, and the base of the saucer are glazed in a smooth, glossy white. The gilt wire outlines add a delicate, raised texture to the floral design. A highly decorative and functional piece, ideal for tea service or as part of an Asian art collection.
