Original, early 19th century portrait of a handsome sea captain exuding quiet confidence. He wears a dark, structured coat and sits near an open window which offers a glimpse of the ocean and a dramatic sunset. Books and papers can be seen on his desk; perhaps journals from previous voyages? The medium is oil on canvas. The canvas has been relined. Unsigned and unframed.
