An original oil on canvas of an alpine lake at sunset: a sunlit peak in warm gold and orange reflected in still blue-grey water, with conifers along the shore. Heavy impasto you can see and feel across the mountain and water. Signed "Thorn" in black at lower right.
Documented: a 1999 professional appraisal of the collection it comes from lists it as "Mountain Lake" by J.C. Thorn, American, circa 1940, oil on canvas, 18" x 24". We found no auction record for the painter, so it is priced as a documented, well-executed regional landscape rather than on a name.
In a moulded gilt frame with scrolled corner and centre ornaments, unglazed. Canvas 24" x 18".
