The hand-painted surface retains considerable original character, with areas of expected wear, rubbing, and scattered losses to the painted decoration. The pine construction shows minor shrinkage, separation, and surface imperfections commensurate with age. There are small dents, scratches, and abrasions throughout. The removable feet are present and functional, with expected wear. Overall, the chest displays well and retains the appealing surface character and patina of a 19th-century painted folk-art piece. less
