Graphic Work / Serigraph by Leopoldo del Brío, Contemporary Art, 1976 - Valladolid, Spain
Excellent serigraph on paper by Leopoldo del Brío Trimiño (La Parrilla, Valladolid, 1945 – Valladolid, March 27, 2026). Against a vibrant fuchsia background, a central abstract composition in shades of yellow and green stands out. Its organic forms evoke plant structures, riverbeds, roots, and other growing biological forms, without establishing a specific figurative reference. The chromatic contrast and the arrangement of the elements generate an intense visual vibrancy, in which color takes center stage.
Leopoldo del Brío was an artist from Valladolid who trained at the School of Arts and Crafts in Valladolid, where he studied under Antonio Vaquero and Ángel Trapote. Throughout her career, she developed a multidisciplinary body of work encompassing painting, sculpture, printmaking, and set design, moving between figuration and abstraction. Her work was characterized by an investigation of the relationships between color, form, and space, as well as by experimentation with light effects and the expressive possibilities of materials.
Among her most notable works are her interventions on altarpieces using gold and silver leaf, in which she explored the effects of light on surfaces.
Throughout his career, he received numerous awards, including the National Sculpture Prize of Valladolid in 1973 and the Caja España Prize in 1981. He also participated in many exhibitions and presented his work individually at the Palacio de Pimentel in Valladolid in 1995.
This particular serigraph comes from the Paradiso Portfolio, produced by the Paradiso Graphic Art Circuit in Valladolid between October 1975 and June 1976. Each portfolio contains nine graphic works by Leopoldo del Brío, Pablo Ransa, Cristóbal Gabarrón, Andrés Trapiello, Benito Mauleón, Pablo Serrano, Faik Husein, Martín de Vidales, and Rafael Canogar. Two hundred editions of each work were produced, numbered and signed by the artists.
