A striking modernist figural drawing depicting a reclining nude in an interior, executed in fluid, economical black line on warm-toned paper. The composition includes a seated bearded figure at left, patterned decorative elements, foliage, and loosely rendered architectural details.
Signed at the lower right “H. Matisse” and dated “36”, indicating 1936. Presented under glass with a wide fabric mat in a substantial giltwood frame.
The confident contour drawing, reclining female figure, and decorative interior setting are characteristic of imagery associated with Henri Matisse’s drawings of the 1930s.
