The artist, who exhibited at the Salon between 1857 and 1880, illustrates here a hamlet with a church surrounded by small houses. Three women dressed in identical outfits are painted and complete this scene of the old days. The trees and woodwork indicate an early autumn season.
This unique work bears the artist's signature in the lower left corner.
Surrounding the canvas, a large frame in perfect condition, scalloped, gilded wood with gold leaf, perfectly matches this pastoral scene. Rich in ornamentation, it presents stylized moldings and sculptures forming arabesques.
