An original ink and watercolor landscape by Hiroshi Honda (American, 1910–1970). Crosshatched foliage in teal, blue-green, and black sits over pale washes of cream, ochre, and rose. A curved trunk anchors the middle ground, with a path or wall at the left and buildings dissolving along the right edge. Signed in vertical Japanese script at the left.
Honda was born in Hilo, Hawaiʻi, sent to Kumamoto as a child, and trained in sumi-e brush painting. After the war he settled in New York and studied with Yasuo Kuniyoshi. The Honolulu Museum of Art holds a substantial group of his work and has given him two solo exhibitions. This sheet shows that same mix of calligraphic line and open Western watercolor.
Presented in a simple black frame with a wide cream mat, under glass. The paper backing shows age: a twisted hanging cord and some edge wear and cracking. The sheet itself is a spontaneous study rather than a tightly finished exhibition piece.
A graphic, quiet landscape that hangs well in a hallway, study, or with other works on paper.

The sheet looks intact under glass: no obvious tears, stains, or foxing in the photos, and the ink and watercolor read clearly. The black frame is solid, with minor edge rubbing. The paper backing is the weak point: cracked and lifting along the right and bottom edges, a small puncture near the hanging hardware, and an original twisted cord still attached. Ready to hang as is; a framer could replace the backing if a buyer wants it cleaned up. less
