About the artist: paule bisman was born in 1897 in namur, belgium and died in 1973 in salzinnes. She was not only a painter but also a sculptor. She studied at the academy of namur under the direction of d. Merny and at the academy of brussels, where her professors were prominent artists such as richir, van strydonck and delville for painting and dubois and rousseau for sculpture (1919–1927). In 1930 she settled in saint-lambert-woluwe. In painting, she devoted herself to landscape scenes, urban views, still lifes, floral compositions, portraits and church interiors. As a sculptor, she created nudes, figurative sculptures, children's sculptures and portraits. A critic wrote about her sculptural work: "p. Bisman depicts beauty through the human body and enhances gesture, posture or expression." after her death, thirty of her paintings and three bronze sculptures were donated to the city of namur. Her work is mentioned in bas ii and in the publication two centuries of signatures by belgian artists. About the painting: the painting depicts a rich bouquet of chrysanthemums and other flowers in a decorated ceramic vase. The warm yellow and pink tones of the flowers create a contrast with the dark, textured background, which underlines their freshness and delicacy. The painter used expressive brushstrokes and a strong impasto technique, which makes the flowers appear plastic and realistic. The work is signed in the lower right corner and is set in an elegant gilded frame, which complements its historical character. Overall, it is a harmonious and elegant composition that will bring warmth and aesthetic charm to the interior.
