This distinctive antique Samarkand rug, measuring approximately 8'2" x 5'1", features an unusual pictorial composition centered on three monumental vessel forms arranged across a warm terracotta field. Instead of the more familiar allover floral or central-medallion layout, the design is organized almost like a woven still life, with a large rounded vessel occupying the center and two tall pedestal-like vessels positioned symmetrically on either side.
The central vessel is rendered in softened shades of antique gold, olive, camel, beige, and brown, with smaller decorative forms rising above it. The flanking vessels have tall architectural bases and patterned upper sections, accompanied by dark curving elements that add movement to the otherwise balanced composition. Their exaggerated scale gives the rug a particularly graphic and memorable character.
A series of decorative borders surrounds the field. Small floral rosettes, geometric devices, and repeating ornamental motifs create a detailed frame around the large-scale central imagery. The contrast between the monumental vessels and the smaller border ornament is one of the most distinctive aspects of the design.
Its beautifully mellowed palette includes terracotta, brick red, rust, dusty rose, salmon, antique gold, mustard, olive green, moss, khaki, camel, beige, taupe, brown, charcoal, muted pink, and touches of lavender. The restrained, time-softened colors give the rug an atmospheric decorative quality well suited to both traditional and contemporary interiors.
At approximately 8'2" x 5'1", the rug has versatile room-size proportions and can serve as a focal piece in a living room, library, study, bedroom, or layered interior. Its unusual three-vessel composition, decorative borders, and aged palette give it both visual individuality and historical decorative interest.
