The deep, warm wood tones and the gilt birds create a quiet, sculptural presence.

These are surviving fragments from a traditional Chinese marriage bed, dating to circa 1880. Each pheasant is hand-carved in high relief with intricate feather detailing, retaining traces of original gilding and a rich, dark patina developed over more than a century. The birds are arranged symmetrically on a dark wood backplate, their forms floating 2 cm above the surface, casting subtle shadows that shift with the light. A few minor losses to the carving are consistent with age — a quiet record of their history, not flaws to be corrected.

Each pheasant measures approximately 15 cm H × 18 cm W. Overall backplate: 85 cm W × 25 cm H. Mounted with a 2 cm floating gap, the piece is ready to hang with pre-installed hardware.

This listing is for one wall sculpture composed of two antique panels on a single backplate. One-of-a-kind composition. See less
