Dating to approximately 1880–1900, the pitcher has a wonderfully sculptural silhouette with a high shaped spout, rounded body and gracefully curved handle. Naturalistic flowers and trailing foliage decorate the body, while the neck and spout are surrounded by particularly elaborate ornamental detailing, including tiny repeating motifs and striking fan-like panels.

The sophisticated asymmetrical floral composition reflects the influence of the Aesthetic Movement on French decorative ceramics during the late 19th century.

The underside is unmarked, and the piece has therefore not been attributed to a particular French pottery. Based upon its form, ceramic body and decorative treatment, it is offered as French Terre de Fer / ironstone-type earthenware, circa 1880–1900.

Approximately 6 3/4" H x 6" W including handle. Body approximately 4 3/4" W; approximately 5 1/4" from spout to handle; base approximately 2 3/4" diameter.

Antique condition with expected minor wear, marks and imperfections associated with age and use. Please refer to photographs for condition details.
