Measuring an impressive 48 inches long, the panel is composed of numerous individually fitted wooden members forming a rhythmic, symmetrical fretwork design. The lattice is assembled using traditional mortise-and-tenon and interlocking joinery rather than simply being cut from a single board. Newly added detail photographs show the hand-cut mortises, fitted joints and exposed tenons used in its construction.

At the center is a separately carved, symmetrical foliate medallion with a crosshatched central boss, providing an ornamental focal point within the restrained geometric lattice.

Lattice windows were an important element of traditional Chinese domestic architecture, allowing light and air into an interior while creating privacy and architectural decoration. Surviving 19th-century Qing examples demonstrate the same combination of geometric fretwork, fitted wooden construction and carved ornament.

The unfinished reverse reveals the panel's construction particularly well, including rectangular mortises, fitted intersections, natural knots and irregularities in the timber. The wood retains a beautifully aged, muted surface with the wear, small losses, shrinkage and variations expected of an architectural element of this age.

Condition: Good antique condition with age-appropriate wear, weathering, surface variation, shrinkage, small losses and irregularities consistent with its original architectural use.
