The exceptional antique frame is richly ornamented with raised scrolling foliage, classical motifs, floral decoration and small figural details. Its beautifully aged gilded surface retains extensive original character and patina, giving the piece the appearance of an object collected on a European Grand Tour.

The reverse retains an old Italian maker’s label reading:

“Luigi Marchetti, Scultore in Legno ed Avorio, Roma.”

The artwork depicts Raphael’s Four Sibyls, surrounded by prophets and putti, with an architectural inscription at the center.

Overall dimensions: approximately 37” W × 21” H.

The piece remains intentionally unrestored, preserving its wonderfully timeworn Old World appearance. An evocative decorative work for an Italianate, Renaissance Revival, Grand Tour, classical or collected interior. See less
