Original oil painting by Chicago artist Carol Aus (1878-1934) depicting an elegant woman in a silk gown. The artist, originally from Norway, was a prominent portraitist in the early 20th century. She trained at Académie Julian and divided her time between Paris and Chicago. She was known for painting American high society and celebrities, as well as the crown prince of Norway. The medium is oil on canvas laid to board. Dates to the 1910s. Partial signature in cursive in the lower right "Carol Au*". On verso there's a gallery label for Findlay Galleries of Chicago. This painting has been professionally conserved. The final 2 photos show the painting prior to restoration.
