The rectangular top features an elegant undulating molded edge, with the shaped skirt following the outline of the top. A concealed center drawer is incorporated into the skirt adding both functionality and visual interest.
The elaborately shaped front cabriole legs feature applied carved ornament at the knees and terminate in sculptural whorl/scroll feet, while the rear legs are of simpler board construction. The table retains a warm, richly toned mahogany appearance with the mellow character and patina associated with age.
An original January 1990 appraisal identifies the piece as a 19th century Renaissance Revival mahogany pier table and provides additional historical documentation.
A particularly versatile form, this table works beautifully as a half or entry console, living-room sofa table, library table, or decorative accent beneath a mirror or artwork. Its 47-inch width provides useful display space without overwhelming a room.
