The engraving is from the renowned series of biblical scenes after Raphael's frescoes in the Vatican Loggia and was executed by French engraver Nicolas Chaperon (1612–1656).
The highly detailed composition depicts the discovery of the infant Moses, surrounded by elegantly rendered figures within an expansive landscape. Chaperon's intricate line work and dramatic treatment of drapery beautifully translate Raphael's monumental Renaissance composition into the intimate medium of engraving.
The lower margin retains the original engraved inscriptions and plate markings.
Presented in an elegant traditional frame with a wide neutral linen-textured mat and contrasting inner border, the piece has a sophisticated architectural presence while allowing the historic engraving to remain the focal point.
