He was one of the main representatives of animal sculpture for the 19th century in France. He often collaborated with his father-in-law Auguste Cain (1821 - 1894). He started working with his father as a metal turner, then devoted himself to porcelain and switched to bronze. from 1837 he was already casting in his own foundry. His works are included in large collections of museums and galleries around the world. This statue was created in the 20th century after his model. It is signed on the underside of the hoof.
